Los Penitentes

Los Penitentes Village is located close to Las Cuevas River, a few kilometres away from the border with Chile and 165 km from the city of Mendoza. This village owes its development to the ski resort. It is 1089 km from Buenos Aires and 713 km from Cordoba. From the capital of the country you can fly over to Mendoza and take the national route Nº7 from there, a pavement road that goes to Santiago de Chile. This place was named after the curious rock formations that look like monks and they can be seen on a side of the valley. The ski season goes from the 15th of June till the 15th of October. Los Penitentes counts with 28 ski trails of all difficulty levels and a good snow quality –dry, powder and hard snow. The base of the ski resort lies at an altitude of 2580 metres above the sea level and the highest point is at 3194 metres. The ski level difference is 614 metres and it has a total length of 25 km of continuous trails that are attractive for both beginners and experts. The lowest part of the ski resort is for beginners. The San Antonio trail has a medium difficulty level and experts usually go to the left side of the top of the Guanaco Lift, heading to Morro Godoy. Los Penitentes is famous for its magnificent mountains, with Mt. Aconcagua only 25 km away, so it’s easy to imagine the ground difficulty level of these lands. In contrast with Portillo and due to its altitude, snowflakes here are smaller, whereas in Las Leñas and Portillo they have a bigger size. According to the records of the ski resort, over 50000 skiers and about 270000 other tourists visit Los Penitentes every year. This place has all kind of ski-related services: ski school, ski rentals, kindergarten, ski storage, ski repair shops, medical assistance, as well as common services such as pharmacy, parking lots, bank, kiosks and mini market. At the base of the mountain you will find different gastronomic options: restaurants with international and regular menus, snack bars, etc. At night you can go out and have fun at the disco-pub.
