Rosario
Rosario is the largest city in the Santa Fe province and one of the most important of Argentina. It is famously known as the 'cradle of the national flag "because the banner was hoisted for the first time on the banks of the Parana River in 1812. The Monumento a la Bandera that pays tribute to the flag is the characteristic symbol of Rosario and covers an area of 10,000 square meters. In its civic yard are given recitals and concerts, a city where the cultural offer is overwhelming. Congresses, art exhibitions, theater plays in more than 30 venues, film festivals and bars remain active all year round and gather bohemians and intellectuals. In this sense Hostelling International recommends that you do not miss El Circulo, a world-renowned opera - known for its excellent acoustics - and the Museo Municipal de Bellas artes, the second most important in country.
Rosario is a beautiful city with intact architectural style from the early twentieth century, it is characterized by wide boulevards and large parks. The largest is El Parque de la Independencia, with no less than 64 hectares, sports, exhibitions and shows take place there, as well as the most important fair taking place in pavilions that are over a century old.
At night, you'll find an intense nightlife, in a succession of pubs, theme bars, clubs, tango bars, karaokes and clubs, many of them are on Cordoba Street and Avenida Costanera.
Of course, the star in town is the Paraná River, with a very big move organized around it. Sport fishing in streams and lakes, is a classic of Rosario, it is an ideal place for water sports enthusiasts and adventure tourism. By this we also mean water skiing, skydiving, windsurfing, kayaking, sailing, or going on photo safaris and tourism flights among other disciplines. There are also many beaches on the banks of the Parana River, like Casablanca, Puerto Pirate or Vladimir. The spas that are successfull amongst youngsters are Rambla Catalonia and Isla Verde, there you can enjoy great drinks and good music.
What to know
- Parque Alem: an extensive area full of ancient trees, with a pier, gardens, cultural center and the Estadio Mundialista de Rosario Central, one of two major football clubs of the province of Santa Fe.
- Paseo del Siglo: An area of mansions, exclusive shops, public buildings and shopping.
- Paseo del Salvador: Where you can see a 1870 Italian sculptures.
- Costa Alta y Paseo del Caminante: a footpath that leads to a dock where boats depart for the islands of the Parana River.
- Pasaje Juramento: containing the most significant buildings of the city, the Municipal Palace and the Cathedral. Walking from the Plaza 25 de Mayo toward the river, to reach the National Flag Park, where they are both located the Monumento Nacional a la Bandera and the Monumento a los caídos en Mavinas.
- Museo Municipal de Bellas Artes "Juan B. Castagnino” : the second most important in Argentina.
- Rosario-Victoria Bridge: connects this city with the rest of the country. It has a length of 60 km. and is known as the Mercosur bridge.
