El Bolsón
El Bolson is the city in the southwest of the Province of Rio Negro and it is located in the angle formed by the Andes and the Parallel 42º, which is the provincial limit with Chubut. This small district owns the best microclimates of the country and it lies on a beautiful and colourful valley that ends in Puelo Lake.
The predominant architecture is based on stone buildings with cypress wood tiled roofs. The landscapes are mainly large fields, mountains, forests, streams and waterfalls formed by the waters coming down the mountains.
The diverse activities that can be done here are combined with the attributes of this place, from adventures to ecological tourism offered by its farms, orchards, etc..
Nowadays, descendents of different groups that originally inhabited the area of El Bolson live here, who came from distant places of the world and settled here, that created an active agricultural community. In the valley there is a production of different organic vegetables (no chemicals or pesticides), fine fruits, as well as woods, milk products (of sheep and goats) and hobs plantations. This plant is known for giving beer its flavour, and it brings important revenue to the region and it helped start the Annual National Hobs Celebration in February.
During the first weeks of January the National Fine Fruit Celebration takes place, offering regional shows, popular dances, sports competitions, producers’ expositions and the selection of the queen. All this production makes the typical gastronomy of this area be famous for its healthy features.
The area has been also declared Non Nuclear Area, and Ecological Community.
