El Chalten
This beautiful village is known as the “national capital for trekking” and it is located in Los Glaciares National Park, in the area of the Viedma National Reserve, at the heart of the southern Andes in Patagonia.
The landscape is formed by the mountains Torre and Fitz Roy, the Moyano and Viedma glaciers, hidden lakes and villas.
The word Chalten means volcano, a name given erroneously by native inhabitants due to the constant clouds located at the top of Mt. Fitz Roy that looks like smoke.
To get to El Chalten you have to go first to El Calafate by plane or by bus, where you will travel 220 km across patagonic landscapes, bordering Argentino Lake and Viedma Lake.
This town has about 200 inhabitants and it is a privileged place for multiple activities in the open air and mountain sports, combined with its superb landscapes.
It is an excellent place for climbers and trekkers. There are diverese viewpoints that require short time walks at a low difficulty level for trekkers, and multiple options for climbing on big vertical walls for experienced climbers. And if you like great challenges this is then the ideal place where you can be the protagonist of activities of a high difficulty level and discover unexplored places and landscapes by doing multiple excursions around the area.
It is recommended to follow a prepared schedule so you won’t get lost in the imponent beauty of the landscape.
This place is also perfect for horseback riding, excursions, photographing, climbing lessons, observation of flora and fauna, fishing, rafting and tourism in villas. Most excursions start at the village.
