Esquel

Inserted in a lovely valley of the Cordillera in the northwest of the province of Chubut, this place surprises with its small-town warmth and rustic mountain environment.
You can enjoy activities such as hiking, horseback riding, hiking, rafting, skiing, hunting, mountain biking and all kinds of activities amidst a unique landscape.
Old trees, wild and transparent rivers, countless lakes surrounded by thick forests, make this a perfect place to visit.
Its main attractions are the National Park Los Alerces, La Hoya ski resort and the historic train known as "The Trochita."

What to see:
Esquel, among La Zeta hills, La Cruz and Nahuel Pan, which you can enjoy both in summer and winter with a vast choice of entertainment, sports, relaxation and fun. Visitors can enjoy mountain activities, walks, climbing, hiking and even fly-fishing.

The Trochita: get transported in time and be part of history during a half-day tour. The Patagonian Express Trochita is one of the few narrow rail trains that are still active in the world. Back from the 1930, it connects the cities of Esquel to El Maitén.
As it moves away from the city, you get lost in time and the landscapes turn into souvenir postcards. This tour is certainly a favorite and must be part of the itinerary of any traveler visiting the city.

Parque Nacional Los Alerces: This National Park, which includes the Shire of Larches, near the cities of Trevelin, Corcovado, Cholila and Tecka. There you can see some of the oldest trees on the planet, in addition to the heavenly lakes and trails.

La Hoya: The winter sports center of La Hoya, is another point of destination particularly in winter, enjoying skiing, in substance or in addition to the popular snowboard.

Other attractions near Esquel:
Trevelin: About 25 kilometers from the city of Esquel is Trevelin Welsh community. Preferred place for the Welsh, where they forged their own history, reflected in the architecture, traditions and typical foods such as Welsh cakes.
Corcovado River Rafting: For the intrepid with rafting class II or III, depending on water conditions and time of year.
Climbing & Abseiling in The Palestra: A few minutes from the city, is a 30 meters natural wall used for climbing and abseiling training.
Rosario Laguna Lake Vintter: Sport and fly fishing.

Getting There:
You can get there by air or road. Esquel is located 620 kilometers from Rawson, Chubut capital or 310 kilometers from Bariloche.

Bus:
From Bariloche, via National Route 258 along the National Route No. 40 on a 310 km journey on paved roads. From Rawson, National Route No. 25 to Gaiman and the Dique F. Ameghino. After you reache 620 km. you get to Esquel. Some travel companies are Andesmar, Via Bariloche, Cooperativa TAC, Transportes Esquel, Don Otto, etc.

Plane:
From Buenos Aires and also from Puerto Madryn to Esquel , scheduled flights with Aerolíneas Argentinas or Lade. There are also regional flights to Comodoro Rivadavia.
