Location
The village of Maimará is located in the Province of Jujuy, northwestern Argentina. Jujuy share its north border with the Republic of Bolivia, the west with the Republic of Chile and south and east by the Province of Salta.
Maimará is at an altitude of 2,334 meters above sea level in the Quebrada de Humahuaca, 76km from the provincial capital: San Salvador de Jujuy, with easy access via national route N9.
From Buenos Aires and the provinces of the center of the country you can get here via the N9 and N34 routes. The N9 between the cities of Salta and San Salvador de Jujuy is a beautiful mountain road. Route N34 is more direct and joins National Route N66 towards the city of San Salvador.
Since the region of Antofagasta in Chile you can get here crossing the Jama border - Route 52 to Purmamarca then N9 for 16 km going north.
From Quebrada you can go up to Bolivia by bus or train car (from Villazon in Bolivia - Argentina border - to Uyuni and Oruro).
Maimará and its surroundings offer many options in terms of conventional, cultural, religious and adventure tourism, or a combination of all such as walking, with amazing opportunities to photograph landscapes or attend unique traditional festivals ; cycling paths and beautiful sites of great historical importance.
